The Correspondents are DJ/MC duo, Mr Bruce and Mr Chuckles. I have seen them quite a few times now, but recently at festivals there has been a massive, a huge monstorous vibe around them. Everyone has turning out en mass to see posh rap over old jazz/swing sounds. The shows have great showmanship of MC Mr Bruce, and a fantastic atmosphere, and really make you feel like something is brewing! The guys collaborate to revamp vintage sounds for the modern ear. Splicing swing samples with squelchy synths over dusty drum loops they’ve depicted a modern day journey into time of rogue’s, lust, affordable clowns and foot-tapping toe curling “get your brogues on” dance floor swing hop.
The gents have shared stages with the likes (or unlikes) of Lilly Allen, VV Brown, Bat For Lashes, Lazy Habits, Daedalus, Bassment Jaxx, Rob Da Bank, Rusko, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Cuban Brothers, Brass Roots, Jocelyn Brown, Dub Pistols etc… etc… You might even have seen them at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Shambala Festival, Lovebox Weekender, The Big Chill Festival.
With their best song still yet to be recorded, beware cause if you get in contact with these guys you will be overcome with joy, and your body may move in mysterious ways! Enjoy the great Jungle Book sampled track available to stream here, and check out on you tube their live vids – not great quality but you get a feel for the frenzy the provoke!
On the 18th September the guys will be playing a show at the Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road, I suggest you beg and steal to get tickets for this!!
