This under the radar guitar group released their debut album on the newly revived Alcohol Label last month, sharing a catalogue code with some of Brighton’s many other alternative artists, and now it’s just been made available to 12″.
With a heavy leaning on the post rock genre, Kinnie move between psychedelic-tinged moments as with second track ‘Mardi Gras’, while ‘Empyrean’ is a stoned British pop record sounding much like what The Maccabees might be making if they weren’t on a major. Warm looping sounds undercut by procession like drums.
While about half the tracks break the four minute mark, for those who like a lot to delve into, this won’t be a problem. There’s an almost ambient electronica feel to a lot of the more blissful tunes here – but the organic instrumentation approach makes it all the more satisfying to listen to. Plenty to persuade you to get this release, would be good to hear some of the more epic sides to this band being condensed to add a little kick. But maybe that’s just the Spotify generation in me talking – as this release should definitely be bought on vinyl.
