Another stella release from one of America’s most interesting indie labels, Karate Body. Seluah is a dark, brooding, sprawling piece of work. A mid-western soundtrack where in the film each of the protagonists end up trawling across the desert in the endless heat. Built up of members also involved in the likes of Boom Bip and People Noise, with production courtesy of My Morning Jacket’s engineer Kevin Ratterman.
It’s a slow burner, not many of the tracks here avoid the five-ish minute mark, but the grinding depth this Nick Cave-esque rock’n’roll could really be allowed to loop forever. ‘Hell and Back’ acting as the backdrop for a Whiskey Bar scene in a Tarantino bloodbath.
