The Last Skeptik’s phenomenal attempt to make a music video for all 14 tracks on his Thanks For Trying album is almost complete, and while his last effort played loneliness and frustration for laughs, ‘I Hate June’ takes things a whole lot more seriously.
Starting off more like a slick advert for some idyllic holiday destination, there’s some dizzying foreshadowing early on and a nasty twist towards the end. The song itself, perhaps the most gorgeous on the album, is delectably sunkissed and so evocative of hazy summer afternoons that it makes the title seem somewhat ironic. Then again, if every midsummer month was like the one depicted in the video, we’d probably hate June too…
