Sam And The Womp

Spotlight

This is another festival band – well it is the season! These guys similarly to the Correspondents (on the previous exposure) use a classic sound (in this case Balkan) and mix it up with modern beats and samples. They are creating their very own dance and quite possible a style of music, the Womp. The live show is sure to get you dancing around like an idiot, and I dare you not to be turned on by the 8-piece band.

Sam and his band of Wompers perform original high-energy Balkan, ska, dub and rave out material with a huge WOMP of gypsy dub-step for pudding. The band recently formed in September 2009 with the joining of Sam Ritchie’s gypsy dub band QDOS with producer Aaron (womp) Audio. SAM AND THE WOMP have already performed at Islington O2 Academy, Standon Calling Festival, Notting Hill Arts Club, Hootananny, Scala, One Taste Festival, The Fridge, Ronnie Scotts and the BBC London Jazz Festival. The band’s debut single BOM BOM is available NOW on the ‘Balkan Fever London’ compilation, freshly released on July 2nd by Green Queen Music.

With loads more shows and releases in the pipe line and the guys growing as a unit, I think these guys could become a huge festival band, paving the way for success on many levels.
