Newcastle sextett Lanterns on the Lake have just released their stunning debut album “Gracious Tide, Take me Home’. Its cinematic experimental folk at its best. Weaving together guitars with violin, mandolin, piano, synths and glockenspiel and above all Hazel Wilds dreamlike voice creates epic soundscapes and a beautifully crafted collection of songs.

CANT - Dreams Come True

From Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor comes this new experimental electronica project – CANT. The feel of Grizzly Bear is still here, even if portrayed in a much different atmosphere. Whispy synths float around a deep, simplistic bass line on 'Believe', while tracks like 'The Edge' veer towards mellow 80s soft electro. There's enough variation here to satisfy everyone, although as is always the case with an anthology, the variation means that you might find yourself skipping tracks to find another one which sounded like the last one you really liked. In the main, though, this is a mellow and simplistic work that utilises genres in an intelligent way to create an interesting sound. Grizzly Bear might have some competition from their own camp as Taylor has deffinitely shown a spark here.
