The American cable giant has agreed a $23.3bn (£14.9bn) takeover of Virgin Media, renewing the rivalry between US Cable Tycoon John Malone and BSkyB founder Rupert Murdoch. The deal will create the largest broadband company in Europe. The new conglomerate will have its headquarters in the UK, and serve 25 million customers in 14 countries across Europe.
